VOLUNTEER

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

oneROOF Youth Services values its volunteers. They are remarkable people who give selflessly because they believe that “one youth on the street is one too many.”  oneROOF Youth Services does not require volunteers to have specific experience in dealing with the youth we serve. We are looking for individuals who believe in the power of a caring community, who can accept differences, who live up to their commitments and are 18 years of age or older.

Volunteers must be able to:

  • Be a support and/or role model to youth through action, words, and behaviour
  • Maintain a professional relationship with youth
  • Commit to a minimum of 8 months of volunteering in order to maintain consistency for the youth we support
  • Participate in a minimum of one shift per week

WHAT WE HAVE FOR YOU

Supporting our volunteers is important to us, because we recognize their intrinsic value. We are happy to be able to provide the following:

Training

Standardized Training (is mandatory prior to a Frontline Volunteers first shift)

Internal Training (offered during shifts, half-day training sessions on a variety of topics)

External Training (Suicide Intervention Training, Addictions support training, etc. when available)

Support

Each shift begins and ends with a “check in” and “debriefing” sessions.  These involve the entire team (including volunteers) and the Shift Supervisor.  It allows for a continuous flow of pertinent information and data collection.
