Sarah Whearty
Manager of Housing
1. Tell us about your role at oneROOF
Hi! I’m Sarah, the Manager of Housing here at oneROOF. Most of my work happens behind the scenes to help make sure our Next Steps Housing (NSH) building runs safely, effectively, and continues to be a supportive space for youth aged 16–25. NSH has 44 units and is transitional/supportive housing specifically designed for youth, and I work closely with the Region of Waterloo, community partners, and outside agencies to make sure we’re supporting our residents the best way possible.
2. why do you enjoy working at oneROOF?
Honestly, the real magic happens because of the frontline NSH team — they’re the shining stars. I just do my best to support them so they can keep doing what they do so well.
This role means a lot to me because I actually accessed services at oneROOF back when it was still called ROOF. The organization helped save my life and gave me skills that I still carry with me today, so I’m incredibly passionate about giving back and making sure youth coming through our doors get the same level of care and support that I did. I truly believe oneROOF is a special place and a vital part of this community.
3. what brings you joy outside of work?
Outside of work, I love live music, travelling, road trips, and spending quality time with my family.
