oneroof youth services: history in the making

Top Five Most Memorable Moments

1. Canadian Observatory on Homelessness labels program as Best Preventative Practice.

This year, our Host Homes Program made history! As a result of a recent evaluation by the Canadian Observatory on Homelessness, our Host Homes program is now being recognized worldwide as a Best Preventative Practice.
Since this announcement, we have received calls from organizations across Canada and around the world, wanting to integrate the Host Homes Model into their communities. This is an accomplishment that will go down in oneROOF Youth Services history.

2. Mental Health & Addictions department officially up and running.

Our Mental Health & Addictions department is officially up and running, with multiple full-time staff and the occasional assistance of a summer placement student. While one-on-one support is still occurring, the newly expanded team has been working hand-in-hand with our LifeLine department to develop helpful group programming.

The Ontario Trillium Foundation provided funding via the Resilient Communities Fund to aid in this expansion, and to provide further support for our front line staff.

3. Youth graduate from employment and education program.

The Streets To Employment and Education (SEE) Program exists to assist youth in their educational pursuits and/or equip them with the skills and knowledge to succeed in future community employment. This year, youth continue to successfully graduate out of the program, leaving with certifications in WHMIS, Safe Food Handling and CPR/AED First Aid, as well as employment skills, job experience, and work references. Many return to school, complete their GED, or find permanent employment.

4. Supportive Housing Building is complete!

Following the completion of our Supportive Housing Build in summer 2022, youth began to move into their new homes within the space and our Next Steps Housing program launched. By early fall, the program was in full swing as we welcomed our first ten tenants into their units. Now housed, these young people can begin to move along the path to independent living with the help of 24/7 staff support and coordinated onsite services.

The building is now home to 44 young people. Learn more about how to support those living in Next Steps Housing, here.

5. On-site thrift store opens doors.

Our on-site thrift store, Change4Change opened its doors for the first time, just in time for a Black Friday Event.

Thanks to the generosity of our community, we often find our donation room bursting at the seams! Change4Change operates as an on-site thrift store, selling these overflow items and employing the youth we serve. With proceeds going straight back to oneROOF Youth Services, you can turn your loose change into actual change in your community! Shop Now
